The health care professionals at Energy Sports Medicine and Wellness Centre in Burlington are highly qualified in their fields. Marcia MacVicar

Marcia has been practicing physiotherapy for over 15 years. Her interest in working with athletes and active individuals began as a junior competitive badminton player. This interest continued at the University of Waterloo where she completed her Honours Bachelors of Science Degree in Kinesiology with a specialization in Sports Medicine, and through playing for the varsity badminton team.

After working for a year as a Kinesiologist and coaching varsity badminton at the University of Waterloo she returned to school to complete her Bachelors of Science – Physiotherapy from the University of Toronto where she graduated with Honours.

Her field experience includes working with both badminton and rugby. Marcia’s continuing education has focused on exercise based therapy, with an emphasis on the body as a whole, correction of abnormal movement patterns/mechanical dysfunctions as well as injury prevention in the athlete and active individuals. She completed the McMaster University Contemporary Acupuncture Program in 2010.

Philip Murphy

Philip completed his Honours Bachelors of Arts in Kinesiology at the University of Western Ontario in 2002 and graduated with distinction.

He then completed his Masters of Science in Physiotherapy at McMaster University in 2004. He is registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, and a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. Since graduating, his focus has been on the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.

Philip applies a comprehensive approach with emphasis on manual therapy, tailored active programs and education to provide individualized client care. His goal is to optimize clients’ recovery and help them achieve their rehabilitation goals.

Philip has also enjoyed an athletic background as a competitive swimmer for 10 years, representing Barbados at the national level on several occasions.

Caroline Beacham

Caroline completed her Honours BA in Kinesiology from Western University. During this time she was apart of the Western women’s rowing team. From there she graduated from McMaster University with her Masters of Science in Physiotherapy.

Since graduating in 2017 Caroline has specialized in sports medicine and cancer rehabilitation. She has completed courses in acupuncture, manual therapy, temporal mandibular disorders, pelvic health, and advanced cancer care.

Caroline’s treatment places a strong emphasis on individualized exercises to help client’s reach their goals. This is complemented with manual therapy, education, acupuncture, and taping as needed.

In her free time Caroline enjoys running, biking, snowboarding, playing tennis, and kite boarding.

Jessica Price

Jessica graduated from a joint Honours Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics and Diploma in Sports Injury management from both the University of Guelph and Sheridan College in 2002. Upon graduation and successful completion of her professional certification exams she began working at a sports medicine clinic.

In addition to continuing education classes such as muscle energy, she began a Master's in Kinesiology in 2003 at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She received a graduate assistant position at BGSU and had the opportunity to be an Athletic Trainer with the NCAA Division I football team, including their invitation to the Motor City Bowl. In addition to other teams, Jessica has worked with the Junior National Field Lacrosse team at the World Championships in 2003, 2008 and 2012.

In 2009, Jessica graduated from the Ontario College of Health and Technology with a diploma in Massage Therapy and became a Registered Massage Therapist with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. In 2010, she completed the Contemporary Medical Acupuncture program at McMaster University.

Erin MacLean

Raised in Burlington, Erin completed her high school diploma at Notre Dame Secondary school. She graduated in 2000 from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology. In 2003, she graduated with honors from Sheridan College with a diploma in Sports Injury Management during which time she completed a year internship in the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger Cats Football Club.

Erin has been an Athletic Therapist for many competitive sports teams including: the University of Western Ontario's Football team and women's basketball team, Guelph University's men's hockey team, and the Columbus Landsharks of the National Lacrosse League.

In 2009, she graduated from the Ontario College of Health and Technology with a diploma in Massage Therapy and in 2010 become a Registered Massage Therapist with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. Erin has taken educational courses in Muscle Energy and Soft Tissue Release.

Certified Active Release Techniques (A.R.T.) and Chiropractor

Randy Lilja

Dr. Randy Lilja graduated from the University of Guelph in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Kinetics, and earned his Doctor of Chiropractic from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 1989. He is a member of the Canadian Chiropractic Association, the Ontario Chiropractic Association and is licensed by the College of Chiropractic of Ontario.

His chiropractic techniques include the use of diversified manual adjusting as well as low-force instrument adjusting. Dr. Lilja is an instructor in Active Release Techniques (A.R.T.) and holds advanced certification in all levels of A.R.T., including Biomechanics and Masters. He also holds a fellowship in Physical and Occupational Rehabilitation.

A wide range of clients, from the weekend warrior to the professional athlete, has benefitted from Dr. Lilja’s diverse background, experience, and skill set.

Certified Pedorthist

Lisa Irish

Lisa Irish has a passion for biomechanics, anatomy, human gait and how all that works together in health and injury of the feet and legs. She is a Canadian certified pedorthist (C. Ped (C)), a professional trained in the assessment and treatment of foot and lower limb conditions and diseases using foot orthotics, footwear, footwear modifications and related devices. After graduating from Kinesiology she trained as a pedorthist and has been practicing clinically since 1985, most recently joining Energy Sports Medicine & Wellness Centre in Burlington. Lisa has consulted internationally, training and educating foot care professionals, lead workshops and presented at conferences on pedorthic therapy. She is also a founding instructor and continues to teach at Western University in the Diploma in Pedorthics program through the School of Continuing Studies. She has been the president of the Pedorthic Association of Canada and an active board and committee member. She has received several awards from her professional association including the award of distinction and the highest honour awarded by the Pedorthic Association of Canada for leadership in the profession and community. She takes every opportunity to help people understand how the human body moves and how appropriately supporting the feet using footwear, orthotics and related devices can affect their overall health.
